In the 1970s, Tyn Bator left Hohhot for the remote steppes of Inner Mongolia. He revived a failing milk powder factory and received a promotion. After many educated young people returned to the cities, he married a local woman and stayed. When local herders questioned the effectiveness of rotational grazing, he took over the worst pasture. Within a year, he achieved tremendous progress, helping to spread scientific livestock farming methods. He put down roots in the steppes and devoted himself wholeheartedly to serving the local population.
